Everything has a meaning to me, when creating jewelry. It doesn’t always have to be great or super-philosophical, but it always means something. I rarely design something without a ’cause’. Silly, probably, but authentic. The wired jewelry is a strong part of my line, it appears in rings and in pendants, in bracelets and earrings, silver or gold (or gold-filled in case of this particular necklace). The wired design means so much to me – perpetual circle of life, hope, the strength of many delicate lines strung together, the strong ties with my loved ones, eternity, fragility, symmetry and chaos all at the same time – so much, it makes my head spin. but it’s a passion I can’t let go of. So – maybe it’s a young look, I don’t know. But mothers of today are so much younger – look at them! We can give them something that says – ‘Hey Mom, I am giving you something that my friends and my daughters and myself all like, and it would look great on you with no pathetic notion”. It’s beautiful, it’s timeless and it’s ageless!

The Mosaic of Life

I grew up with a father who was an artist, who explored and researched and implemented a much his work in mosaic art. He brought special marble and stones from everywhere, studied the stones, and made huge, detailed, mostly tradition stories or memorial work in natural multi-color stone mosaics. I grew up in his studio and as a small child of 5 or 6, he already gave me small chores helping him with his projects. My life progressed with his mosaics. My life IS a mosaic. I guess everyone’s is. In my jewelry, I combine a lot of mosaic features, mirroring my past, present and possibly my future. This necklace is a mosaic work set with a pink rose quartz to add glory to the piece. Every part of the pendant is engraved differently and positioned separately, forming a perfectly balanced shape that to me, is a piece of my own life. And since my mother is such an important part of it – there we go. Complex, but just right.

Pearls Are a Mother’s Best Friend

Pearls, oh- pearls! They are soft, and feminine and classy; they are any woman’s quiet way of saying – yes, I am strong, modern, aware and independent, and this is why I can wear pearls with such confidence. Anyway – that’s how I’d like to see it…. I was brought up in the 60′s and 70′s by feminist parents. Both, yes. My upbringing was all about striving for excellence, equality, self-assurance and compassion. That, on top of strong intellectual and artistic influence, have made me a proud, strong, and securely feminine woman. And that’s why I prefer pearls to diamonds – pearls are quiet but sturdy, soft-toned but visible, and mix with everything. So – when I want to give a gift of love, pearl jewelry are right up there with great books, music or art-work. This necklace is so much myself and the women around me. It’s a Mother-Daughter Thing…

Mothers and daughters grow up together. As a child I was convinced my Mom was a super-hero – she knew everything, she had a solution to every problem and there was nothing in the world she couldn’t do. I was right, of course, but so wrong, too. She wasn’t all these things, but I only got to know it later in life, when she got to know me better as well. As a young mother, I was always perplexed the mere fact that this was probably how my daughter viewed me… It was so strange to think that anyone would regard me as some mighty being. And this is how we go on. We’re in awe of our mothers and of our kids as well… can’t lose (or can’t win? Not sure which….) So, this time, I am getting my Mom something I would have love to get myself. Sort of a poetic symmetry that says it all..
