My Mom is not one to sit and moan. Although she is of age and not well, nothing turns her off more than talking about old age, illnesses or nostalgia. Nope. Being the intellectual that she is, we don’t do small talk. We talk about current politics, social issues, family stuff, and literature. I am lucky to be able to learn something substantial and new every time from the wisest person I know. But the highlight of our week, since we both love movies, is our Friday afternoon movie date. I usually pick a feature and buy the tickets in advance so that we don’t waste time standing in line. We watch the movie and then have coffee and talk about it, and that time in the week is truly magical. So here is my recommendation – take Mom OUT. Don’t stay in all the time. Even if it means walking slower, and talking louder, and having to have coffee with a straw – who cares? This is what life and love are all about.
